What is the difference between a cherry picker and a spider lift?

The main difference is the chassis and the footprint. A standard cherry picker is usually on wheels or a truck. A spider lift uses rubber tracks to 'walk' into position. Because they are so much lighter and more compact, they can fit through a standard doorway or track over delicate garden lawns where a heavy truck mount would cause serious damage.
